THE Sultanate's best bowlers are doing their best to defend home turf.

It will be an all-Bruneian affair in the semi-finals of men's category of the Brunei Open Pairs 2011 at the Lawn Bowls Centre of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

Despite teams from Labuan proving to be strong challengers in the group stages, it was the local teams that made their mark when it mattered most during the knockout stages yesterday.

Brunei D defeated compatriots Ilmu Alim 3 11-5 in the Round of 12 before edging Labuan A 13-10 to move into the final four setting up a date against another Brunei team Red Flowers.

The latter progressed into the semi-finals with victories over Seri Brunei (11-9) and Labuan E (12-8) respectively.

Brunei A received a bye in the Top 12 and only needed to beat Ilmu Alim 2 which they did, winning 12-7 to progress into the final four.

They next face Sinar Suria 2, who battled Ilmu Alim 1 to a 15-11 victory in the Round of 12 before disposing of Labuan D 11-7 to enter the semi-finals.

In the women's category, Labuan G will take on Ilmu Alim 4 in the semi-finals while Dewi Brunei and Sabah A will face off in the other match.

The semi-finals will begin at 8.30am today while the final is slated for 2.30pm.

Jointly organised by the Lawn Bowls Association of Brunei Darussalam (LBABD) and Ilmu Alim Consultation Services and Management, the tournament features 72 bowlers and kicked off on Thursday.

A total of 26 pairs divided into four groups started the tournament in the men's category while two groups of five teams kicked off the meet in the women's category.

Besides Brunei, this is the first time that the organisers have invited teams from Labuan and Sabah to compete.

Labuan started brightly, leading two of the four groups in the men's category after the first day of competition on Thursday.

But, Brunei bowlers proved they can challenge their Malaysian rivals, picking up their game when it mattered.

Dreamline next generation

Dreamline XG

Following the enormous success of the Henselite Dreamline bowl since its introduction almost a decade ago, we are proud to introduce the next generation...the Dreamline XG.
At Henselite we feel we have made a great bowl, even better.
The Dreamline XG is a superb all-round bowl. The key to its success is its density which creates maximum stability without compromising its comfort in the hand. This enhanced stability and its predictable line make it so versatile, it's at home on all surfaces from North to South and East to West, even in the windiest of conditions.
The Dreamline XG is characterised by a clean, constant arc with a holding finish to the head.
It provides the ultimate in comfort, stability and consistency for all bowlers from social to
competitive and elite level.
The new Dreamline XG has three improvements from the previous Dreamline model:
1. Greater Material Density
This gives the bowl unprecedented stability in all conditions. The Dreamline XG has a more holding finish than the original Dreamline. This ensures its adaptability to the wide variety of surface speeds encountered throughout Australia, from the fast greens of QLD and NSW to the holding greens down South, as well as synthetics and carpets.

2. Fine-tuned shape
Mass has been re-distributed on the shoulders of the bowl without affecting the sides. This model of weight distribution will ensure its line stays true, no matter what green surface or weather conditions you play in.
The Dreamline XG will have the same comfort in the hand that its predecessor was famous for so it will still give the bowler excellent control on the delivery.
The Dreamline XG’s improved shape, when combined with the increased material density, enhances its stability and predictability in windy conditions. It also ensures that the bowl will maintain its momentum for better performance on drives and weighted shots.

3. Re-positioned grip
An enhanced grip is repositioned lower down on the bowl.  Many modern coaches advise the bowler to hold the bowl with the thumb at its natural resting point. The re-positioned Dreamline XG grip is aligned with this point, allowing for a more natural delivery.
